 You Wanted Out [Plot]
« Thread Started on Jun 2, 2008, 4:55pm »

Elderly? Not all are, but certainly everyone is on their way out...

From the time we are born, we are dying. Cells regenerate only long enough to function, and then degenerate. Also, within life, death is the only thing we are most likely guaranteed, and though it may sound depressing, it shouldn’t. Plenty of life experiences to have, along with the many memories of times shared with others plague your mind… again, this shouldn’t be as depressing as it sounds.

What is depressing is, after you watch your family’s car drive away, the empty room that belongs to the facility of Athena’s Garden which is more than likely going to be your last home. What is depressing is, as you look around the facility, you know absolutely no one, for most of the residents came from different places, all over the country. What should depress you is this looks like it could be your final chapter…

And yet, is it? Will it be your final chapter? Or rather, is this the last book of a never-ending story? Just because it seemed at first that life ended… now you have a whole domain to yourself where you have a roof over your head, your family is paying for everything from miles away, and there is no one telling you what to do… per say. The way to make your stance is to be remembered…

Do you have what it takes to do just that?

You’re not the only one in this situation… and some of the people you will meet are stubborn enough to make this place their last. Athena’s garden is a place filled with people who just can’t seem to keep to themselves, whether it’s gossip or just plain taking things from others that don’t belong to them, and even others are continuously plotting their escape from the facility. Which side will you reside on? North Wing where the mentally handicapped are, or East, where the sane but questionable characters mostly reside. You may think you’re the only sane one in the joint… but then you hear in the back of your mind a voice that keeps asking… who will finish first?

Is there time to do all of what one wants within the boundaries of a new home they never wanted… or is the finish line too close for anyone to truly be spared?

Watching over the suffering, you wonder if they really suffer... or if they just enjoy making your job a living hell.

Everyday it’s the same scene. The elderly, handicapped, old and even some rather young, wheel around, eat, crap, and drool. Some are sympathetic, others not so much, but all in all the job gets done and it’s done well. Some of you are slackers, while others of you take your job seriously: sometimes a bit too, seriously. Attaching yourselves to some patients more than others, and in the end doing the same things to all of them all of them… giving them their medications, speaking as nicely to them as possible, and ultimately hoping that you are, or in some cases, are not there when your favorites pass.

It’s a hard life, being a part of the nursing staff, especially at Athena’s Garden; for most certainly the wide variety of patients that come there are interesting, unique, and sometimes a lot more intelligent than how they appear to be. Constantly, you're finding things missing, people in the wrong rooms, people walking out the doors when they aren’t supposed to, and even occasionally the local law enforcement officer will bring one home that you couldn’t believe you missed… how they got out, is the mystery all by itself.

Your job is critical and one wrong move, or mistake, and you could be canned immediately. Not to mention, with a mentally deranged employer, you’re constantly walking as if you were on hot coals. Be warned, however, it’s not only the residents and the owner of the Athena’s Garden Facility that you have to watch out for…

…the state and health inspectors want your jobs too…

Are you sure, you can handle the heat?

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

And you thought your job was easy. All that had to be done was cook a few meals, prepare them for all of the residents, make sure there was nothing wrong, restock, clean, dishes, and then go home… but nothing is ever that simple.

The nurses can never seem to find anything right with what you do, they want their meals before the residents even get theirs, and on top of all that, the mentally deranged facility owner has put his just as brain-dead sister, Adele, as your boss! Life could just only get worse, however, and don’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

The plumbing is bad, the garbage disposal backs up, the dishwasher breaks constantly, and someone forgot to filter the vinegar they used to clean the coffee makers completely out of the coffee makers! It’s just another day in the kitchens, and after the meals, it’s over and then you get to go home…that is after you lead the old woman who could talk your ear off about the pink elephants back out of the kitchens.

Ah yes, home… until tomorrow that is.

Janitorial duty... not always a punishment.

Working day and night to keep everything running smoothly, you're in charge of cleaning, garden work, and light maintenance. Or at least they say it's light... with how much you find that is wrong with this building you can't believe it passed inspection to even open up. Sighing periodically, however, you like the pay check you get from the job and you suffer through.

Now all together we get...

Athena's Garden Nursing Home

Just opened, furnished, painted, constructed, and employed in all areas, Skye Moonshine has opened a nursing facility to top all others. He claims it’s clean, pristine, and above all else, family run… that is he has placed his sister, Adele, in charge of the kitchen and the dining aspect, but to him it’s family run. Opening the building up, he forgets to tell his employees about all the short cuts the carpenters and contractors took in order to get the building up fast, and affordable. He doesn’t think much of it, for his office upstairs is the best and safest in the whole building, and most of the time he resides there, never stepping foot upon the wings that are not closed off from the employees and residents of the building.

But there’s something else that’s just not quite right about the Moonshine family that doesn’t only bother the township, but also the employees who find, themselves working at Athena’s Garden. Strange things keep happening, and sometimes, strange noises are heard from the South and West floors that are not even built up yet…

What is up at Athena’s Garden? Who are the Moonshines? Do the residents know something the employees don’t? Have they always?

This is the last stop for the elderly patients, a new chapter for the employees, and above all else a scandal only waiting to be uncovered. But will it, before all who do know something cross the finish lines?
